What paid medical leave could mean for you and your business (January 10, 2014)

There’s no doubt health care will encounter numerous changes this year.

One potential change could come from proposed legislation that will pave the way for workers to collect payment while out of work on medical leave due to illness or serious condition of a family member.

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand and Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan today introduced the Family and Medical Insurance Leave Act at City Hall.

The bill allows employees the flexibility to establish a paid medical leave fund in case of an emergency.

This self-funded, individual program, modeled after other successful programs in New Jersey and California, would be a capped monthly amount that would fluctuate with inflation.
